Mirror Lake

Why do you think they call it Mirror Lake? You have to go up a stiff hill to get there, but the view is worth it. Careful going back down the hill! Don't speed when there are tourists on the road -- most people want to feel peaceful in Yosemite, not thrilled.
Mirror Lake is actually a lake turning into a meadow. It is sheltered at the end of the Valley Floor, and the smooth surface reflects the view behind.

There are restrooms at Mirror Lake, but no water. There is water at Happy Isles.

Rented bicycles are not allowed on the road up to Mirror Lake beyond the point where it starts getting steep. They seem to allow you to risk your own bike though. One gentleman complained to me: "You can't skate that fast! Don't you know this is a steep hill?" I was going uphill at the time. :-)

When you are looking at the lake, as in this photo, you have skated four miles from the Lodge. The return trip through Happy Isles and Curry Village is about five miles.
